Created by St’át’imc First Nation artist and ceramicist Patrick Leach, this bowl features a finely carved porcelain surface and a bold, black exterior glaze in Patrick's signature style. While the swirling blue interior reflects both the coastlines of the Salish Seas and the deep (often turbulent) skies of the North Pacific, the exterior showcases the abiding beauty of St’át’imc First Nation cultural heritage with a striking arrow head weaving pattern, making this bowl an atmospheric statement piece.

Patrick’s body of work also features an array of weaving patterns which take inspiration from both Interior Salish & Coast Salish basketry. Interior Salish & Coast Salish weaving is renowned for its astonishing intricacy and beauty and the knowledge of how to create vessels such as baskets for both ceremonial and practical use has been passed down through the generations for over 4,000 years. St’át’imc First Nation artist and ceramicist Patrick Leach is well known across the Pacific Northwest for his uniquely carved ceramics that reflect St’át’imc & Snuneymuxw territory landscapes, cultural practices such as dip-net fishing and traditional basketry, and designs inspired by ancient rock paintings.

Patrick’s ceramics feature distinctive bold black bodies, with finely sgraffitoed designs, cloud-like interior glazes and striking bands of colour reminiscent of Interior & Coast Salish woven baskets and formline styles. His ceramics are of particular interest across North America as he is one of the only established First Nations potters working in the Pacific Northwest.
