About the Event

Our Wild Walks: Wheel Around the Sun event series at Edgelands offers unique cultural tours and events in the wilds of our home island of Gigha. Join us as we celebrate our beautiful island landscapes throughout the Celtic Solar Year; from the first emergence of spring and full bloom of the Summer Solstice to the feasting delights of Autumn’s First Harvest.

This March on the beautiful Isle of Gigha join us as we celebrate the Spring Equinox, with a seasonal exploration of medicinal wild plants, a Gealach an t-Sìl (Seed Moon) inspired pottery workshop & a beautiful Sea to Sky Lunch!

Interwoven with gentle and mindful, multi-sensory storytelling, encounters with Gigha’s plant life, beautiful eats and creative activities, our Sea to Sky Experience invites you to fully immerse yourself in the rhythms of the season.

Find out more about our Wheel Around the Sun Series here.

MARCH & APRIL 2026 :: This Day Experience is available to book as a Private Event, as separate workshops or in combination with one of our Wild Walks. Contact our Events Team for more information here.

Our morning session will focus on getting to know 10 culturally significant wild plants that are active during early spring, their Gaelic names, and how their unique healing abilities have aided Islanders up and down Scotland's West Coast for millennia.

During our Introductory Lesson in Traditional Medicine Making you will learn the basics of cold, hot & oil-based infusions, decoctions, and aromatic treatments and explore the roles wild plants play in our Traditional Food Systems. This lesson aims to unlock your senses with a series of tastings and demonstrations as a way to deepen your knowledge, appreciation and care for these beautiful wild plants.

Try some home-brewed hot and cold infusions, sweet & savory bites, healing salves, and learn how to create your own incense cones featuring medicinal plants. You will also learn about Edgelands' approach to respectful and sustainable wild harvesting and about our Edgelands Garden.

Our tasting session will be followed by a pottery workshop inspired by the upcoming Gealach an t-Sìl (Seed Moon) and the sun of the Co-fhad-thràth an earraich (Spring Equinox). Join us as we make mini candle holders that can also act as plant pots and learn how to emboss your creations with plants and natural materials!

Each candle holder will come with a handmade Scottish Black Bee’s Wax candle and your own set of seeds which you will learn how to plant & look after in your very own handmade paper pot.

And finally join us for a beautiful Sea to Sky Light Lunch featuring dishes inspired by a journey from Gigha’s shores to hilltops. Our lunch includes home grown, locally sourced and wild harvested produce and drinks.

At the end of the day everyone will leave with their own planted seeds in a handmade paper pot, glaze to complete their pottery creations at home, a handmade candle made from Scottish Black Bee’s wax and access to our online learning platform where you will find plant profiles and instructions on how to make your own herbal infusions at home.
